Job Description

Role Overview McDermott International, Ltd is looking for a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to join their Chennai operations. This senior-level role demands a seasoned expert capable of solving the most complex electrical engineering challenges with a direct impact on business direction and project outcomes. The ideal candidate will bring deep domain knowledge in oil and gas engineering and demonstrate both technical excellence and strong leadership capabilities. Key Responsibilities - Perform conceptual, FEED, and detailed engineering analyses and design in compliance with project specifications, design codes, and industry standards - Lead and direct large multidisciplinary engineering teams as Lead Engineer, managing scope, deliverables, schedules, and manpower resources - Identify and resolve highly complex engineering problems while developing cost-effective and innovative technical solutions - Review and approve key discipline deliverables including electrical studies, SLDs, hazardous area classification drawings, load lists, C&E charts, and ESD logic diagrams - Interface with all engineering disciplines, procurement teams, fabrication groups, and project management to ensure clash-free and coordinated designs - Manage vendor and subcontractor submittals, evaluate technical quotations, and support procurement activities for electrical equipment and materials - Raise and manage technical queries, change notifications, and variation order support with appropriate documentation - Represent the discipline during client meetings, certifying authority reviews, and third-party audits - Provide mentoring, technical guidance, and performance input for junior and mid-level engineers - Participate in hazard and safety studies, cold-eye reviews, and contribute to lessons learned and global procedure development Required Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline - 22 to 28 years of experience in oil and gas engineering with major EPC contractors or consultants, focused on detailed design - Recognised specialist in electrical engineering with strong knowledge of design techniques, analysis methods, and applicable international codes and standards - Demonstrated communication and presentation skills including technical paper publications, conference participation, or internal knowledge-sharing sessions - Skilled in project coordination, resource forecasting, and execution planning across large-scale engineering projects Why Join Us McDermott International has spent over a century turning bold ideas into reality across the global energy value chain, from deepwater infrastructure to offshore wind and onshore energy delivery. Requirements

- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering - 22 to 28 years of experience in oil and gas EPC or consultancy environments - Expert knowledge of electrical design codes, standards, and analysis methods - Experience leading large engineering teams and managing discipline deliverables - Proficiency in electrical studies using industry-approved software - Strong skills in vendor document review, procurement support, and technical bid evaluation - Ability to manage multiple interfaces across disciplines, fabrication, and project management - Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills - Experience with hazardous area classification, SLDs, C&E charts, and ESD logic diagrams - Familiarity with FEED, conceptual, and detailed design phases in offshore or onshore energy projects
