Senior Principal Electrical Engineer

Role Overview McDermott International, Ltd is looking for a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to join their Chennai team and take on a high-impact leadership role within a globally recognised energy and engineering organisation. This position is suited for a seasoned expert with deep knowledge of electrical engineering in the oil and gas sector, capable of solving complex technical challenges and driving innovation across large-scale projects. The role demands both hands-on engineering excellence and strong leadership capabilities when acting as Lead Engineer for multi-discipline teams. Key Responsibilities - Lead conceptual, FEED, and detailed design and analysis activities in alignment with project specifications, design codes, and applicable standards - Identify and resolve the most complex electrical engineering problems with creative, cost-effective, and reliable solutions - When serving as Lead Engineer, direct large engineering teams and manage all aspects of discipline execution including scope, schedule, budget, and manpower - Coordinate interfaces and deliverables across all disciplines including Planning, Fabrication, Marine, and Project Management - Review, prepare, and approve key deliverables such as electrical studies, SLDs, C&E charts, hazardous area classification drawings, load lists, and lighting calculations - Assist procurement by reviewing requisitions, evaluating technical quotations, and coordinating vendor document approvals - Participate in hazard and safety studies and perform cold eye or SME reviews for other projects - Mentor, supervise, and guide junior and mid-level engineers to build internal capability - Capture and incorporate lessons learned into company procedures and global engineering standards - Represent McDermott as a Subject Matter Expert in internal forums, client meetings, and with certifying authorities Required Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a recognised institution - 22 to 28 years of experience in the oil and gas industry with major contractors or consultants, predominantly in detail design - Proven expertise in electrical engineering design techniques, analysis methods, and industry standards and codes - Strong communication and presentation skills, with a track record of technical publications, conference participation, or similar professional engagement - Demonstrated ability to coordinate and execute complex multi-discipline engineering projects - Recognised within the industry as a key technical lead, innovative designer, or highly skilled analyst Why Join Us McDermott has spent more than 100 years turning ambitious ideas into reality across the global energy value chain, from deep-sea infrastructure to offshore wind and onshore energy solutions.
