Procurement Specialist

Role Overview McDermott International, Ltd is looking for an experienced Procurement Specialist to join their team in Chennai. In this mid-senior role, you will apply your conceptual and practical knowledge of procurement processes to solve a range of supply chain challenges with moderate guidance from leadership. You will build on your understanding of business drivers to develop vendor relationships, manage purchase orders, and ensure materials are sourced competitively and in compliance with company standards. Key Responsibilities - Procure materials for MDR business activities in line with company policies, budgets, and ethical standards - Act as an internal liaison with PMT, Engineering, Construction, QA/QC, Safety, Accounting, and Warehouse teams - Interface directly with external vendors to manage sourcing, pricing, and delivery requirements - Manage the RFQ process including reviewing requisitions, issuing RFQs, coordinating clarifications, and performing commercial bid evaluations - Prepare Recommendations of Award and obtain necessary approvals in accordance with internal procedures - Place and administer purchase orders, including revisions and resolution of discrepancies - Monitor vendor performance continuously and develop a strong and diverse vendor base - Facilitate the Supplier Registration Process to onboard potential vendors into the MDR system - Track market trends in pricing, lead times, manufacturing capacity, and new supply sources - Support the bid pricing process by providing timely and accurate procurement inputs - Assist expeditors and resolve commercial issues with vendors when required - Supervise, train, and coordinate activities of assigned procurement personnel Required Qualifications - Engineering graduate with approximately 10 years of relevant procurement experience - Strong knowledge of procurement processes, international standards, and construction industry regulations - Ability to communicate commercial solutions clearly to both procurement and non-procurement stakeholders - Experience supporting integrated procurement on a global scale and working with supplier agreements - Familiarity with local and regional logistics regulations - Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Access - Experience with Smart Plant Materials and HR systems - Certification in process improvement or Six Sigma is an added advantage Why Join Us McDermott International has spent over 100 years turning ambitious ideas into reality across the global energy value chain, with more than 30,000 professionals operating in 54 countries.
