Assistant Outbound Operations Manager

Role Overview Unilever is looking for an Assistant Outbound Operations Manager to be based out of Chennai. This role is central to driving primary transport operations and achieving excellence in outbound fulfilment. The ideal candidate will collaborate with transporters, regional fulfilment teams, factories, and depots to enable superior service delivery and cost efficiency. Key Responsibilities - Manage primary transport operations across manufacturing sites and Buffer Distribution Centres in the region - Drive 24-hour and 48-hour dispatch compliance through structural interventions with transporters and factories - Continuously address dispatch loss trees and lead disruption planning with branches, factories, and distribution planning teams - Unlock primary transportation savings and deliver cost-per-ton targets for the region - Improve loadability across manufacturing sites in collaboration with factory, transporter, and planning teams - Ensure right truck type availability to achieve the lowest cost per ton in the distribution network - Maximise green channel compliance and dedicated truck efficiency in partnership with regional logistics teams - Resolve direct dispatch issues and drive conversion of direct dispatch potential with branch partners - Ensure timely closure of transporter claims, account reconciliation, and PNCC closures on a quarterly basis - Lead the Road Safety agenda for regional primary transportation in partnership with transporters - Reduce dents and damages by working closely with quality teams, factories, and transporters - Drive digital transformation in transportation through Delta and SPIN adoption - Explore multi-modal transport opportunities to further optimise the supply chain Required Qualifications - University degree in Science or Engineering - 5 to 6 years of relevant industrial experience in logistics or supply chain operations - Strong understanding of primary transport operations, cost management, and fulfilment planning - Ability to build and sustain productive relationships with internal stakeholders and third-party logistics providers Why Join Us Unilever is a globally respected FMCG leader that champions Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion across all levels of the organisation. - Degree in Science or Engineering - 5 to 6 years of experience in logistics or transport operations - Knowledge of primary transportation and supply chain management - Experience managing third-party logistics providers and transporters - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Ability to drive cost optimisation and loadability improvements - Familiarity with digital tools in transport management - Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills - Understanding of road safety standards and compliance
