Role Overview
Saint-Gobain Group in India is looking for a Research Engineer with a strong foundation in rheology to join its innovation-driven team in Chennai. This role is central to building and advancing the organization's rheology competency, directly supporting the development of next-generation lightweight construction materials. You will work at the intersection of material science, formulation, and process engineering to deliver meaningful research outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive and develop the company's rheology competency focused on lightweight construction materials
- Define rheological methodologies, standards, and best practices that support material innovation, scale-up, and manufacturing robustness
- Plan, execute, and interpret advanced rheological testing to establish connections between material structure, processing behavior, and end-use performance
- Provide expert technical guidance to formulation, process, and simulation teams on challenges related to flow, dispersion, curing, stability, and processability
- Translate rheological findings into design specifications and actionable recommendations for material and process optimization
- Establish and maintain rheology test methods aligned with specific application requirements
- Mentor junior team members and conduct global knowledge-exchange workshops on rheology topics
- Drive continuous improvement in rheology tools, instrumentation, data analysis workflows, and digitalization of experimental results
- Collaborate with external partners, suppliers, and academic institutions to integrate emerging rheology techniques and innovations
Required Qualifications
- Educational background in chemical engineering, materials science, polymer science, or a related field
- Hands-on knowledge or academic exposure to rheological testing and measurement techniques
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to link material behavior to processing and performance outcomes
- Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to cross-functional teams
- Interest or experience in lightweight construction materials or formulation science is a plus
