Research Engineer 2

Role Overview Saint-Gobain Group in India is seeking a motivated Research Engineer 2 to join its R&D team in Chennai. In this role, you will evaluate the energy and comfort performance of building materials across multiple projects and collaborate closely with business unit teams to support new product development. You will leverage simulation software and onsite measurement techniques to quantify and communicate product performance effectively. Key Responsibilities - Perform climate analysis to understand outdoor environmental conditions across Indian, European, and American cities - Conduct whole-building energy simulations to assess energy consumption, thermal comfort, and visual comfort across building types including offices, residences, hotels, and hospitals - Analyse simulation outputs and benchmark results against international and local standards such as ASHRAE, ECBC, and NBC - Prepare standardised, well-structured reports with clear infographics to present findings to internal teams and external clients - Collaborate with in-house teams to streamline and optimise simulation workflows and reduce overall analysis turnaround time - Support Glass and Gypsum R&D teams by providing technical arguments to aid product prescription - Assist business unit R&D teams in new product development initiatives - Conduct onsite multi-comfort assessments covering thermal, visual, air quality, and acoustic parameters inside buildings - Stay updated with the latest research publications, journals, and university collaborations to drive new product exploration Required Qualifications - Master's degree or equivalent in Building Science, Energy Efficiency, Thermal Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Architecture - Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in building performance or a closely related domain - Sound knowledge of building science principles, multi-comfort parameters, and applicable standards such as ASHRAE, ECBC, and NBC - Proficiency in building energy simulation software is mandatory - Working knowledge of AutoCAD and SketchUp is highly desirable - Basic understanding of MATLAB or Python for data monitoring and visualisation - Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong organisational ability - Experience with data acquisition, instrumentation, and instrument control is an added advantage - Familiarity with post-processing tools for large datasets including MATLAB and MS Excel is a plus Why Join Us Saint-Gobain is a globally recognised leader in sustainable building solutions with a strong commitment to innovation and research.
