Role Overview
Hitachi Energy is seeking an experienced Electromechanical Engineer to join the Power Conversion Solutions team at its Indian Operation Center in Chennai. This role is central to the design, modelling, and delivery of advanced power converter systems including STATCOM, Static Frequency Converters, Static Var Compensators, and Series Compensation plants. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders across multiple locations to ensure high-quality engineering outcomes on complex, customised power electronics projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and model STATCOM, Static Frequency Convertor, Static Var Compensator, and Series Compensation plants in a 3D environment
- Prepare FACTS plant layouts including yard arrangement, electrical HV and EHV clearance checks
- Develop civil conceptual and interface drawings such as foundation plans, trench layouts, and load calculations
- Create control building layouts covering electrical cubicles, thyristors, and pump skid arrangements
- Prepare cable trench, conduit layout, grounding, and lightning protection calculations and drawings
- Review equipment drawings for reactors, capacitors, circuit breakers, isolators, cooling skids, and related components
- Perform steel design calculations including member sizing and foundation bolt selection, and prepare detailed steel drawings for manufacturing and installation
- Compile heat and ventilation system data as input for HVAC design
- Verify technical data sheets for primary equipment and evaluate vendors through facility visits
- Obtain customer approvals for designs and drawings and prepare as-built documentation
- Provide technical coordination with sub-suppliers and stakeholders across locations, including on-site commissioning support
- Travel to project sites within India and abroad at short notice as required
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Electromechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in power electronics, FACTS technologies, or high-voltage substation design
- Proficiency in 3D design environments and preparation of detailed engineering drawings
- Strong understanding of civil, structural, and electrical interface requirements for power conversion plants
- Ability to manage technical coordination across multiple stakeholders and project locations
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for project support
- Commitment to safety, quality systems, and continuous improvement practices

Requirements
