Job Description

Role Overview Hitachi Energy is seeking a skilled and motivated Control Design Engineer to join its Power Conversion Solutions team at the Indian Operation Center in Chennai. This role is ideal for a professional with a strong background in power electronics, control systems, and substation automation who is eager to work on cutting-edge converter solutions for utility, rail, and industrial applications. You will be part of a globally recognised team that has developed some of the world's most advanced power conversion systems, including the world's largest drive for a hydro pump station. Key Responsibilities - Plan and develop control and protection systems for power electronic converter projects - Develop open-loop control applications using ABB Compact Control Builder with programming in Structured Text and Functional Block Diagram; knowledge of C, C++, or Java is an added advantage - Design and develop SCADA and HMI applications using Micro SCADA and Zenon SCADA software, including template, faceplate, and popup creations - Design secure overall network architecture for power conversion projects and evaluate cybersecurity of DCS, SCADA, and HMI connections - Simulate converter behaviour during grid disturbances and verify software on real-time simulators and project hardware - Support Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing activities with sub-suppliers - Provide technical coordination with sub-suppliers and multiple stakeholders across different locations - Deliver on-site commissioning support across India and international locations at short notice - Continuously improve Overall Control engineering tasks under the GPQS framework Required Qualifications - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation and Control, or a related discipline - Minimum 2 to 6 years of hands-on experience in substation automation projects in India or abroad - Proficiency in Hitachi MACH Control System, ABB Compact Control Builder, Panel 800, Micro SCADA, Zenon by Copa Data, and MS Visio - Working knowledge of grid and substation automation and power grid automation systems - Hands-on experience with IT infrastructure including routers, firewalls, switches, servers, and workstations with basic networking skills - SCADA or HMI certifications, CCNA, CCNP, or cybersecurity knowledge is an added advantage - Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of German is a bonus - Willingness to travel to project sites in India and abroad on short notice Why Join Us At Hitachi Energy, you will be part of a global technology leader in electrification that powers a sustainable energy future for over three billion people worldwide. Requirements

- Degree in ECE, EEE, E&I, or I&C (Bachelor's or Master's) - 2 to 6 years of experience in substation automation projects - Proficiency in ABB Compact Control Builder and Structured Text or Functional Block Diagram programming - Experience with Micro SCADA and Zenon SCADA software - Knowledge of Hitachi MACH Control System and Panel 800 - Secure network architecture design for DCS and SCADA systems - Basic IT networking skills including routers, firewalls, switches, and servers - Familiarity with real-time simulation and hardware verification - Experience supporting FAT and SAT activities - Strong communication and interpersonal skills in English - Willingness to travel domestically and internationally at short notice
