Job Description

Role Overview Saint-Gobain Group in India is looking for an experienced Patent Specialist to join its dedicated patent team at Saint-Gobain Research India (SGRI) in Chennai. In this role, you will collaborate closely with R&D and business units to identify, protect, and strategically grow Saint-Gobain's global patent portfolio. You will also provide critical support for patent enforcement and litigation activities within India. Key Responsibilities - Prepare comprehensive IP opinions covering patentability, freedom-to-operate (FTO), and invalidity assessments - Analyse and interpret patent search results from multiple sources to generate actionable insights - Conduct regular patent watches to monitor technology trends, competitive activity, and geographic developments, and share findings with R&D and business stakeholders - Draft and review patent specifications for Indian filings and adapt priority applications for PCT, EPO, and international jurisdictions - Draft and manage responses to office actions in India and abroad, ensuring compliance with applicable patent laws - Support patent opposition proceedings and assist enforcement activities through detailed research and analysis of relevant case law Required Qualifications - Master of Science or a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from a reputed institution - 8 to 10 years of hands-on experience in patent drafting and prosecution within an R&D or law firm environment, with at least 2 years in a people management capacity - Registered Patent Agent with the Indian Patent Office (preferred) - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English Why Join Us Saint-Gobain is a globally recognised leader in sustainable construction and high-performance materials, offering a collaborative and innovation-driven work environment. Requirements

- Experience in patent drafting and prosecution (8-10 years) - Background in R&D or law firm environment - At least 2 years of people management experience - Degree in Science or Engineering from a premier institution - Registered Patent Agent with the Indian Patent Office (preferred) - Strong proficiency in preparing IP opinions including FTO, patentability, and invalidity - Knowledge of PCT, EPO, and international patent filing procedures - Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
