Lead System Engineer - Power Conversion

Role Overview GE Vernova is looking for a seasoned Lead System Engineer specialising in Power Conversion to join their Chennai operations. This is a high-impact, technically demanding role suited for a driven professional with deep expertise in power systems engineering. You will play a central role in supporting global project execution, collaborating with cross-functional international teams, and delivering cutting-edge power conversion solutions to clients across diverse industries. Key Responsibilities - Support business verticals by creating and reviewing system solutions during the OTR process, ensuring technical feasibility and managing associated risks - Lead end-to-end project execution by analysing customer contracts and preparing detailed specifications for vendors and internal stakeholders - Conduct basic and detailed engineering for variable speed drive systems, converter duty transformers, MV/LV motors, MV/LV switchgear, and power and signal cables - Prepare and review technical documentation as per contractual obligations and oversee vendor documentation - Perform and review power system design studies across multiple industries and domains - Identify technical risks and develop appropriate mitigation plans - Ensure full compliance with company and customer EHS policies and procedures - Liaise with Platform Engineering, Value Engineering, Supply Chain, sub-contractors, and other GE business units to support project delivery - Drive lean thinking to provide optimised and cost-effective technical solutions - Propose and implement improvements in processes, tools, and system technologies Required Qualifications - Masters or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognised university - Minimum 10 to 12 years of experience in engineering design and power system studies involving VSD, transformers, motors, and switchgear - Proven experience in system integration on multi-discipline projects - Sound knowledge and application of international engineering standards - Familiarity with marine classification society rules such as ABS, DNV, LR, and BV for equipment certification - Strong analytical and problem-solving approach - Proficiency in MS Office applications - Knowledge of simulation tools such as Matlab, ETAP, EDSA, PSCAD, SKM, or EMTP is an added advantage - Proficiency in French or German language is a plus - Willingness to travel domestically and internationally on short notice Why Join Us GE Vernova offers a collaborative global work environment where your technical expertise directly influences world-class power conversion projects.
