Software Test Automation Engineer

As a Software Test Automation Engineer at KLA's Chennai centre, you will be part of an engineering-driven team that builds and maintains high-quality automation frameworks for cutting-edge web applications and services powering advanced PCB and IC substrate manufacturing solutions. Key Responsibilities - Analyse product requirements, architecture, and customer workflows end-to-end to define a comprehensive automation strategy and test coverage plan for web applications and web services - Participate early in the SDLC by reviewing functional and system requirements to ensure testability, identify risks, and define measurable acceptance criteria aligned with user journeys and API contracts - Build and maintain a scalable test automation framework using Playwright for web UI automation, following strong engineering practices including reusable utilities, page and component patterns, stable selectors, and robust test data strategies - Automate critical user flows such as smoke, regression, and high-risk business paths by modelling realistic user behaviour and validating complete workflows across UI, backend services, and data stores - Develop automated validations for web services and APIs covering functional checks, contract validation, negative testing, and error handling, integrated with UI flows for true end-to-end coverage - Apply AI-assisted automation techniques including smarter test generation and adaptive self-healing approaches to reduce script fragility and accelerate automation development - Create and maintain test plans, automation suites, and CI/CD execution pipelines; ensure results are visible through dashboards, logs, and reports to support release decisions - Execute and monitor automated test runs across builds, analyse failures to distinguish product defects from test issues, and maintain the automation suite at a production-grade standard - Measure and communicate automation coverage, quality trends, and release risk; continuously prioritise work based on defect trends and business-critical usage paths - Collaborate with cross-functional and global stakeholders including developers, architects, and product owners to promote quality best practices throughout the software lifecycle Required Qualifications - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Software Engineering, Automation, Electronic Engineering, or a related technical discipline - Familiarity with software quality control processes and a solid understanding of web UI testing concepts - Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language such as Python, C/C++, Perl, or VBScript - Working knowledge of Visual Studio, automated testing frameworks, MySQL or Oracle databases, and Linux command-line tools is preferred - Fluent written and spoken English communication skills - Strong initiative, fast learning ability, proactive attitude, and a collaborative team spirit - Master's degree holders with 0 years of experience or Bachelor's degree holders with a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience are eligible to apply Why Join Us KLA invests over 15 percent of its annual revenue back into research and development, giving engineers access to some of the most intellectually challenging and impactful problems in global technology.
