Senior Java Engineer - Jakarta EE

Role Overview CGI is looking for a skilled and experienced Senior Java Engineer with deep expertise in Jakarta EE to join our growing technology team in Chennai. In this role, you will take ownership of the technical architecture and design of large-scale enterprise applications, working within an Agile environment to deliver solutions that are secure, scalable, and high-performing. You will collaborate closely with product managers, developers, and business stakeholders to ensure technical decisions align with broader organisational goals. Key Responsibilities - Design and implement new application features based on business requirements within an Agile and Scrum-based development framework - Define and guide the overall technical architecture, infrastructure roadmap, and scalability strategy for the development team - Own end-to-end delivery quality across functionality, performance, security, and usability - Conduct thorough code reviews and enforce adherence to architectural guidelines and coding standards - Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across distributed enterprise systems in a timely and effective manner - Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management and business stakeholders to maintain technical alignment - Champion the adoption of modern engineering practices including DevOps, CI/CD automation, and cloud-native architectures Required Qualifications - Expert-level knowledge of Java and J2EE or Jakarta EE technologies - Strong experience designing enterprise applications using EJB, JPA, and other core Jakarta EE standards - Hands-on experience building RESTful web services using JAX-RS or Spring MVC Rest - Solid knowledge of SQL and relational database design principles - Experience with event-streaming platforms such as Confluent Kafka - Deep understanding of Agile methodologies, Scrum, and Application Lifecycle Management - Familiarity with version control systems, static code analysis tools, and CI/CD pipelines - Preferred: exposure to cloud-native architectures, Kubernetes, performance tuning, high-availability design, and enterprise security best practices - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related engineering discipline Why Join Us At CGI, every team member is treated as a partner and owner from day one, giving you a direct stake in the company's success and strategic direction.
