Senior Java Developer - Assistant Vice President

Role Overview Citi is looking for a Senior Java Full Stack Engineer to join its Payments Technology team at the Assistant Vice President level. This is a high-impact senior developer role that supports Citi's global expansion into new markets, the integration of new payment methods, and the continuous enhancement of platform capabilities. You will work within a cross-functional team covering the complete software development lifecycle from design through to deployment. Key Responsibilities - Design and develop scalable, production-grade software solutions using Spring Boot, Angular, and microservices architecture - Support critical project deliverables tied to global payment expansion and new platform feature launches - Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members resolving high-priority, client-impacting production issues - Perform deep-dive root cause analysis on code and data to build Standard Operating Procedures that prevent recurring incidents - Develop and manage well-functioning databases and backend applications ensuring high responsiveness and efficiency - Write clean, maintainable APIs and keep technical documentation up to date - Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to estimate effort, plan implementations, and ensure timely delivery - Conduct rigorous software testing in line with quality, performance, and business requirements Required Qualifications - 8 or more years of hands-on design and development experience with a strong focus on Spring Boot and Angular - Strong proficiency in Java and associated front-end technologies - Proven experience building medium to large-scale applications using open-source stacks including Spring Boot and Microservices - Working knowledge of MongoDB and relational or NoSQL database management - Familiarity with test-driven and behaviour-driven development concepts and frameworks such as JUnit - Experience working within Agile Scrum delivery frameworks - Strong systems analysis skills and the ability to write functional and technical specifications - Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience Why Join Us Citi is one of the world's most globally connected financial institutions, offering senior technology professionals the opportunity to build products that move money and create impact at scale.
