Senior Engineering Manager - Non-Functional Quality and Performance Engineering

Role Overview Caterpillar Inc. is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead Non-Functional Quality Engineering across its enterprise digital platforms. This is a high-impact horizontal leadership role with primary accountability for Performance Engineering, scalability, reliability, and resilience at scale. The role works in close partnership with Architecture, SRE, Engineering, and QE leaders to embed a performance-first culture and enable data-driven decisions across the software delivery lifecycle. Key Responsibilities - Own and define the Non-Functional Quality strategy, governance model, and release readiness criteria across the enterprise - Lead end-to-end Performance Engineering capability including workload modeling, test strategy, performance budgets, and production validation - Drive shift-left performance integration within CI/CD pipelines and establish certification models - Influence system design using performance-first principles and define reusable QE architecture patterns - Align with SRE teams on SLOs and SLIs, driving resilience engineering and production telemetry linkage - Define and present NFR metrics and performance risk reports in executive forums - Champion AI-assisted testing, anomaly detection, and automated root cause analysis initiatives - Build and scale the Non-Functional QE capability, mentor engineers and architects, and establish a Non-Functional Excellence Guild Required Qualifications - 20 or more years of experience in Quality Engineering or Performance Engineering - 8 or more years of experience leading large, distributed engineering teams - Proven track record of enterprise-level performance leadership and cross-functional influence - Strong expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and APIs - Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure - Deep understanding of observability and APM ecosystems - Excellent executive communication and stakeholder management skills - Preferred exposure to large-scale digital platforms and AI/ML-driven testing practices Why Join Us At Caterpillar, you will be part of a globally respected team that turns innovation into reality and builds solutions that create stronger, more sustainable communities.
