Power BI Front-End Developer

Role Overview Caterpillar Inc. is looking for a skilled Power BI Front-End Developer to join their global engineering team in Chennai. In this role, you will design and maintain scalable backend data queries and interactive Power BI dashboards that support worksite monitoring and IoT/Telematics device analytics. You will play a key part in building a governed data layer that drives consistency, reduces costs, and translates complex operational data into actionable insights for decision-making. Key Responsibilities - Develop backend SQL and Snowflake queries to serve as a shared data layer across all Power BI dashboards - Build interactive and user-friendly Power BI dashboards for monitoring worksites and IoT/Telematics devices - Optimise backend queries and data models to reduce Snowflake compute and storage costs - Define KPIs, DAX measures, and calculated metrics aligned with operational and business goals - Establish reusable datasets and eliminate redundant data pipelines across reports - Analyse historical and real-time data to identify trends, anomalies, and performance gaps - Integrate data from multiple sources including Snowflake, SQL Server, and cloud platforms - Collaborate with Product Service Engineers for failure analysis, diagnostics, and reporting - Perform validation, testing, and troubleshooting of dashboards and data pipelines - Build and maintain documentation for data models, dashboards, and KPI definitions - Create executive dashboards and ad-hoc reports for management visibility Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, Data Science, or a related field (Master's preferred) - 3 or more years of hands-on experience in Power BI, SQL, and BI/analytics development - Proven experience with Snowflake and cost-efficient query design - Strong expertise in DAX, data modelling, and Power BI performance tuning - Experience building reusable enterprise-level data models and dashboards - Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms such as Azure or AWS - Exposure to DevOps pipelines and version control for BI solutions - Working knowledge of Python or scripting for automation is preferred - Experience with cross-functional engineering and support teams Why Join Us At Caterpillar Inc., you become part of a purpose-driven global team that builds stronger, more sustainable communities through innovation and technology.
