R&D Engineer, HPC Systems

Role Overview KLA is a globally recognised leader in semiconductor manufacturing technologies, powering virtually every electronic device in the world. This full-time R&D Engineer role is based at IIT Madras Research Park, Chennai, within KLA's Advanced Computing Labs (ACL), a team dedicated to delivering cutting-edge parallel computing research and software architectures for AI, HPC, and cloud solutions. You will work at the intersection of high-performance computing and artificial intelligence, collaborating with world-class engineers, physicists, and researchers to accelerate KLA's product performance and shape its HPC technology roadmap. Key Responsibilities - Identify and expose limitations in existing CPU and GPU cluster-based solutions and drive deployment of AI workloads on on-premises and cloud infrastructures at scale - Design and develop distributed frameworks and system-level solutions to enable scaling of image processing and AI workloads from single GPU setups to large multi-node, multi-GPU clusters - Install, benchmark, and evaluate pre-release hardware for early-stage prototyping by identifying or developing relevant workloads and performance metrics Required Qualifications - Master's or PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline; bachelor's degree holders with exceptional experience and a strong track record will also be considered - Deep understanding of operating systems, computer networks, and high-performance computing applications - Solid grasp of modern distributed system architectures comprising CPUs, GPUs, and hardware accelerators - Proven experience deploying deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch on large-scale on-prem or cloud environments - Strong proficiency in advanced C++ concepts and scripting skills in Bash, Python, or similar languages - Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams Why Join Us KLA invests over 15 percent of its annual revenue back into research and development, giving you access to some of the most exciting and challenging engineering problems in the world.
