R&D Engineer, HPC Systems

Role Overview KLA is a global semiconductor technology leader whose innovations power virtually every electronic device on the planet. Their Advanced Computing Labs (ACL) team in Chennai, based at IIT Madras Research Park, is focused on delivering cutting-edge parallel computing research and software architectures that power AI, HPC, and Cloud solutions at scale. As an R&D Engineer for HPC Systems, you will be at the forefront of building distributed computing frameworks that push the performance boundaries of KLA's semiconductor inspection and process control products. Key Responsibilities - Identify and expose limitations in existing CPU and GPU cluster solutions, and develop strategies to deploy AI-based workloads on on-premises and cloud infrastructures at scale - Design and build distributed frameworks and system-level solutions to scale image processing and AI workloads from a single GPU to large multi-node, multi-GPU clusters - Install, benchmark, and evaluate pre-release hardware during early-stage prototyping by identifying or developing relevant performance workloads - Collaborate with academic institutions, industry partners, and internal KLA business units to pioneer novel parallel computing methodologies Required Qualifications - Masters or PhD in Computer Science or a related field; exceptional bachelor's degree holders with strong track records will also be considered - Deep understanding of operating systems, computer networks, and high-performance computing applications - Strong mental model of modern distributed system architectures comprising CPUs, GPUs, and hardware accelerators - Hands-on experience deploying deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch on large-scale on-premises or cloud environments - Proficiency in modern and advanced C++ programming concepts - Strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, or equivalent languages - Good written and verbal communication skills Why Join Us KLA invests over 15 percent of its annual revenue back into research and development, making it one of the most innovation-driven companies in the semiconductor industry. - Masters or PhD in Computer Science or related field - Strong knowledge of operating systems, networks, and HPC applications - Experience with TensorFlow and PyTorch on large-scale infrastructure - Advanced C++ programming skills - Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, or similar - Understanding of distributed systems with CPUs, GPUs, and accelerators - Experience with CUDA, Triton, or other heterogeneous programming languages is a plus - Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or Singularity container infrastructure is a plus - Experience building open-source OS and software stacks on pre-release hardware is a plus
