Manufacturing Quality Engineer

Role Overview Apple is looking for a skilled Manufacturing Quality Engineer to join its Chennai team and play a pivotal role in shaping the quality of next-generation Apple products. This is a high-visibility position within the Manufacturing Design team where you will lead quality and data analysis activities for glass manufacturing through New Product Introduction (NPI) and ramp phases. You will be instrumental in enabling mass production of industry-defining products by combining precision engineering with cutting-edge quality methodologies. Key Responsibilities - Partner with tooling and functional teams to evaluate designs and manufacturing processes at the concept phase - Develop measurement technologies, control strategies, and manufacturing methods that meet ambitious quality specifications at large production scale - Design and implement advanced quality inspection tools for evaluating cosmetic and dimensional part characteristics - Compile and analyse production data to establish appropriate limits and variables for process and part specifications - Lead efforts to balance exceptional product quality with scalable manufacturing yields - Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define quality expectations and ensure appropriate assurance techniques are applied - Coordinate and prioritise quality engineering functions across multiple programmes - Establish supplier audit procedures to ensure compliance with Apple quality standards - Drive corrective actions and failure analysis with cross-functional teams - Evaluate and communicate yield performance of new and existing manufacturing processes - Mentor team members and support recruitment of new engineering talent Required Qualifications - 6 to 10 years of experience in manufacturing and quality control - Proven experience developing process quality plans, conducting supplier quality audits, and driving corrective actions - Working knowledge of mechanical quality and reliability concepts, supplier management, and general manufacturing operations - Experience with development and evaluation of measurement systems - Strong command of GD&T practices including datum establishment and tolerance analysis - Proficiency in problem-solving tools such as Design of Experiments, Root Cause Analysis, and statistical tools like JMP or Minitab - Project management experience with a structured and results-driven approach - Knowledge of CMM, OMM, contour machines, interferometers, 3D scanning, and other high-precision equipment is an advantage - Familiarity with glass manufacturing and coatings is an advantage - BE or BTech in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Chemical, or Materials Engineering or a related field; ME or MS preferred Why Join Us At Apple, you will be part of a diverse and innovative team that crafts products and experiences that transform entire industries.
