Mainframe Developer - Technical Lead

Role Overview Cognizant is looking for an experienced Mainframe Technical Lead to join its growing technology team in Chennai or Pune. This is a full-time, on-site role requiring 5 days of in-office presence per week and is ideal for professionals with deep expertise in VSAM, JCL, DB2, and COBOL. The position offers exposure to large-scale enterprise projects with opportunities to drive technical innovation in the Cards and Payments space. Key Responsibilities - Lead end-to-end design and development of complex mainframe applications using VSAM, JCL, DB2, and COBOL - Oversee integration of new technologies with existing systems to ensure seamless operations - Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level team members - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on project goals and delivery timelines - Analyze system requirements and translate them into detailed technical specifications - Conduct regular code reviews and enforce coding best practices to maintain high quality standards - Troubleshoot production issues and resolve technical defects to ensure system reliability - Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for system processes and enhancements - Implement process improvements to boost operational efficiency and reduce costs - Engage with stakeholders and clients to understand requirements and provide customized solutions - Monitor project progress and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders - Stay current with emerging mainframe technologies and industry best practices Required Qualifications - 8 to 12 years of hands-on experience with VSAM, JCL, DB2, and COBOL - Strong background in application development and system integration on mainframe platforms - Experience in the Cards and Payments domain is a significant advantage - Certification as a Mainframe Application Developer covering COBOL, JCL, DB2, and VSAM - Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail - Proficiency in technical documentation and process improvement methodologies - Strong interpersonal, communication, and team collaboration skills - Ability to commit to full on-site work schedule of 5 days per week, 10 hours per day Why Join Us Cognizant offers a dynamic work environment where you can work on cutting-edge mainframe projects alongside some of the brightest minds in the industry.
