Junior Engineer - Process Engineering

Role Overview Gradiant India Private Limited is looking for a motivated Junior Process Engineer to join its growing team in Chennai. Founded at MIT and headquartered in Boston, Gradiant is a global leader in advanced water and wastewater treatment solutions serving industries such as semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, and renewable energy. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and optimisation of water and wastewater treatment plants while working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions. Key Responsibilities - Design process trains for water and wastewater treatment plants in coordination with the process engineering team - Prepare and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Heat and Mass Balances, and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) - Perform equipment design and sizing to meet defined process requirements - Coordinate with business development, project management, operations, and safety teams during proposal preparation - Develop detailed project cost estimates and collaborate with the business development team on pricing strategies - Participate in customer meetings, bid clarifications, and safety workshops including HAZOP, HAZID, and FMEA - Prepare process engineering deliverables such as control logic, datasheets, and commissioning procedures - Utilise membrane simulation tools, statistical analysis, and data reconciliation software for design calculations - Evaluate existing treatment processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and regulatory compliance - Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training documentation for treatment processes - Analyse customer RFQs, tender packages, and user requirement specifications to identify and fulfil client needs - Provide technical training to internal teams and external customers on treatment processes and related technologies - Stay updated on emerging technologies, industry trends, and evolving regulations in water and wastewater treatment Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree, Post Graduate Diploma, or Professional Degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering - Minimum 3 years of experience in process and application engineering within the water and wastewater sector - Familiarity with a variety of water and wastewater treatment technologies including membrane filtration processes - Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and rigorous attention to detail - Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English - Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment - Willingness to travel as required - Relevant certifications in the water treatment domain are an added advantage Why Join Us Gradiant offers a dynamic and innovative work environment where engineers can work on mission-critical projects that make a real difference in global water sustainability. - Bachelor's or Post Graduate degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering - Minimum 3 years of experience in process engineering within the water and wastewater sector - Knowledge of membrane filtration processes and membrane system design - Experience preparing PFDs, P&IDs, and Heat and Mass Balances - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Proficiency in English (verbal and written) - Familiarity with membrane simulation tools and data reconciliation software - Ability to conduct risk assessments and participate in HAZOP, HAZID, and FMEA workshops - Willingness to travel and work in a fast-paced environment - Relevant industry certifications are a plus
