Intermediate Software Quality Engineer - Mainframe

Role Overview UPS is looking for an Intermediate Software Quality Engineer with strong Mainframe expertise to join its Information Services Management and Quality Assurance team in Chennai. This is a mid-senior level full-time role where you will lead testing components of large and complex projects, mentor team members, and ensure the highest standards of software quality across key business functions. You will work closely with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment to design, automate, and execute comprehensive test strategies. Key Responsibilities - Design, develop, and automate test scenarios and expected outcomes for Mainframe-based applications including CICS, JCL, DB2, and COBOL - Test and debug batch jobs using JCL and perform backend testing by executing SQL queries - Lead testing efforts for large and complex projects, assign tasks to team members, and report progress to project stakeholders - Execute API and Web Services testing using tools such as Postman, SOAP UI, and related platforms - Work within Agile and SAFe frameworks to support continuous testing and delivery pipelines - Create and maintain test cases, manage test data, and produce clear test execution reports - Utilize tools including Selenium, TestNG, Cucumber, Jenkins, GitHub, AppDynamics, and Azure DevOps - Conduct risk-based assessments and contribute to QA reviews and inspections - Stay updated on emerging technologies to help maintain a competitive edge for the organisation Required Qualifications - Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in IT test automation - Strong hands-on knowledge of Mainframe testing including CICS, JCL, DB2, and COBOL - Proficiency in Selenium, TestNG, and Cucumber automation frameworks - Experience with API and Web Services testing using Postman and SOAP UI - Familiarity with Azure DevOps and SAFe Agile methodologies - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field preferred - Experience with both web-based and client/server-based testing - Good to have experience in performance testing using JMeter or Performance Center - Test automation certifications are an added advantage - Knowledge of the logistics domain is a plus Why Join Us UPS is consistently ranked among the top 500 companies in the world, offering a culture of innovation, inclusivity, and continuous professional development.
