Role Overview We are looking for an experienced Copy Editing Supervisor to lead the copyediting division at a reputed publishing organisation based in Chennai. This is a mid-senior level opportunity ideal for editorial professionals with a strong background in book or journal publishing who are ready to take ownership of quality, team performance, and editorial workflows. Key Responsibilities - Lead, mentor, and manage a team of in-house and freelance copyeditors on a day-to-day basis - Allocate manuscripts to team members based on complexity, subject expertise, and production deadlines - Review edited manuscripts to ensure adherence to house style, grammatical accuracy, and editorial consistency - Provide ongoing coaching and training on publishing conventions and editorial standards - Personally handle complex or high-profile titles that require senior-level editorial attention - Enforce compliance with established style guides including the Chicago Manual of Style and publisher-specific guidelines - Track and manage manuscripts across all stages of the editorial lifecycle - Coordinate with typesetting and design teams to resolve outstanding editorial queries - Communicate editorial changes and queries clearly and professionally to authors - Partner with project managers to align on timelines, expectations, and deliverables - Maintain and update the publisher's house style guide on a regular basis - Develop and implement standard operating procedures for copyediting, proofreading, and quality assurance - Monitor editorial quality metrics and drive continuous process improvements - Evaluate and integrate tools and best practices to improve team efficiency and output accuracy Required Qualifications - Master's degree in English, Publishing, Journalism, or a related field - 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience in book or journal publishing with strong copyediting expertise - 2 to 4 years of experience managing editorial teams or coordinating with freelance editors - Deep familiarity with major style guides especially the Chicago Manual of Style - Proven track record working on long-form content such as books, academic titles, or scholarly journals - Experience with manuscript tracking systems and publishing tools such as InDesign, XML workflows, or CMS platforms - Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain consistency across large volumes of content - Ability to manage multiple titles simultaneously under tight production schedules - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with authors and cross-functional teams Why Join Us This is a high-impact editorial leadership role at a growing global services organisation where your expertise in publishing and team management will directly shape the quality of output.
