Automation Support Engineer

Role Overview WPP, one of the world's largest marketing and advertising services organisations, is hiring an L1 Automation Support Engineer to join its newly established Automation Operations Centre (AOC) team in Chennai. This entry-level full-time role sits within WPP's Enterprise Technology, Automation and AI department and offers a unique opportunity to build a career at the intersection of RPA, Power Platform, and AI-driven automation. You will report to the Automation Operations Manager and work closely with global product, platform, and delivery teams to ensure WPP's automation solutions run reliably and efficiently across 100+ markets. Key Responsibilities - Monitor the health and performance of RPA bots such as UiPath and Power Automate Desktop, as well as Power Automate flows, using established dashboards and tools - Log all incoming incidents accurately with detailed descriptions, screenshots, and relevant context in the incident management system - Perform first-line troubleshooting using runbooks and knowledge base articles to resolve common automation failures including process restarts and basic log checks - Escalate complex or unresolved incidents to L2 or L3 engineers with a comprehensive handover of all diagnostics and steps taken - Communicate timely updates to end-users and stakeholders regarding incident status and resolution progress - Execute pre-defined SQL or reporting queries to retrieve information and assist in diagnosing automation failures under supervision - Contribute to maintaining and updating support documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles - Provide support during testing phases for RPA tool updates, patches, and Power Platform version upgrades as directed by senior engineers - Assist in gathering performance metrics data to improve system stability and operational efficiency - Strictly adhere to operational procedures, security policies, and incident management protocols Required Qualifications - 2 or more years of experience in an IT support, helpdesk, or technical operations role - Minimum 1 year of hands-on exposure to RPA technologies such as UiPath or Microsoft Power Automate, or the broader Microsoft Power Platform - Proven experience developing and maintaining Power Automate flows within the Microsoft Power Platform - Basic knowledge of SQL including running pre-defined queries and understanding database structures - Proficiency in incident management tools such as ServiceNow or Jira Service Management - Familiarity with monitoring tools and the ability to interpret operational dashboards - Basic understanding of IT infrastructure and network concepts - Mandatory certifications: PL-500 Microsoft Certified Power Automate RPA Developer Associate and PL-900 Microsoft Certified Power Platform Fundamentals - Preferred certifications: UiPath Automation Developer Associate and PL-400 Microsoft Certified Power Platform Developer Associate - Strong written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail - Proactive mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Why Join Us At WPP you will gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge automation and AI technologies while collaborating with some of the brightest minds in the industry on projects that span a truly global scale.
