Assistant Manager - Freight Procurement and Pricing

Role Overview Silq is looking for a commercially driven and analytically sharp Assistant Manager to lead Freight Procurement and Pricing operations from our Chennai office. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role at the heart of our digital freight platform, covering vendor management, rate intelligence, pricing infrastructure, and collaboration with Sales, Account Management, and Product teams. The ideal candidate brings deep domain expertise in international freight and thrives in a fast-moving, data-driven environment. Key Responsibilities - Own the procurement inbox and manage inbound pricing and procurement tickets from internal stakeholders including Account Management, Sales, and Operations teams - Support the Deal Desk by structuring competitive freight rates for complex and customised multi-modal, multi-lane customer requirements - Lead rate negotiations with Agents, Ocean Carriers, and NVOCCs for bid submissions, spot requests, and ad-hoc pricing needs - Publish weekly rate analysis reports covering key trade lanes across Ocean FCL, LCL, and Air freight for commercial and marketing teams - Monitor market trends such as carrier capacity shifts, surcharge movements, and geopolitical developments that impact freight pricing - Configure freight charges, surcharges, and fee structures accurately within the Silq platform and perform regular reconciliation of vendor invoices - Own and maintain transit time data across all trade lanes and service providers, ensuring accuracy for quoting and customer ETA reliability - Lead end-to-end onboarding and performance management of vendors and agents including vetting, compliance checks, and contract renewals - Partner with Product and Engineering teams to improve pricing and procurement workflows, participate in UAT, and champion automation initiatives Required Qualifications - 5 to 9 years of experience in freight forwarding, logistics, or supply chain with at least 3 years in a pricing, procurement, or commercial operations role - Hands-on experience negotiating rates with Agents, Ocean Carriers, and NVOCCs - Strong understanding of international freight concepts including Incoterms, FCL, LCL, air freight, and multimodal logistics - Proficiency in working with rate management systems, TMS platforms, or freight forwarding ERPs - Analytical mindset with ability to interpret market data and translate insights into commercial decisions - Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English with confidence presenting to senior stakeholders - Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets and familiarity with BI tools such as Metabase or Tableau - Prior experience in a digital freight platform, freight-tech startup, or data-driven logistics company is a strong advantage Why Join Us At Silq, you will have the opportunity to shape the commercial backbone of a growing digital freight platform and directly influence revenue outcomes.
