Role Overview
American Express is looking for a sharp and detail-oriented Risk Management Analyst to join its Financial Crime Centre of Excellence team in Gurugram. This team drives enterprise-wide Anti-Money Laundering transaction monitoring programs across all products and services in both US and international markets. As part of this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional compliance and risk teams to design, implement, and optimise automated transaction monitoring systems that protect the organisation and meet regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with GFCC, FCSU, and GRC Capabilities teams to design and implement automated transaction monitoring scenarios that support compliance stakeholders
- Define, document, and manage business requirements in coordination with relevant stakeholders across technical and non-technical functions
- Provide conceptual and analytical support for the design of transaction monitoring scenarios related to credit and charge card products
- Perform in-depth data analysis using Excel pivot tables, intermediate SQL or HQL queries, and statistical techniques including Exploratory Data Analysis with Python
- Analyse the effectiveness of existing transaction monitoring rules and recommend optimisations to improve accuracy and efficiency
- Ensure all processes and actions are properly logged to support regulatory reporting, and prepare qualitative documentation for stakeholders
- Review monitoring outputs to verify conformity and accuracy with their intended design objectives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree from a Tier-1 institute
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience in a similar analytical or compliance-related role
- Hands-on experience with Excel, SQL or HQL, and statistical programming using Python
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical audiences
- Excellent analytical thinking, attention to detail, and critical problem-solving abilities
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage interdependencies and deliver under tight timelines
- Knowledge of AML investigations and the payments industry is a plus; working knowledge of Credit and Fraud Risk is highly preferred
- Proactive learning mindset with the ability to quickly grasp new concepts with minimal supervision

Requirements
