Senior Quality Engineer I

Role Overview American Express is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer I to join its dynamic technology transformation team in Chennai. As part of Loyalty Partner Solutions, you will work on high-performance loyalty management software that powers programs for leading global brands including Lufthansa Miles and More, Deutsche Bahn, PAYBACK, and major international airlines. Key Responsibilities - Design and deliver end-to-end performance test solutions across multiple projects and platforms - Prepare test strategies and configure test environments to support comprehensive performance testing activities - Collaborate with solution architects to evaluate performance optimisations within software architecture - Define, develop, and execute performance tests on critical functionality to isolate bottlenecks and fine-tune reliability and scalability - Analyse test results and work closely with architects, developers, and operations teams to log and resolve performance defects - Monitor application performance continuously and identify potential issues before they reach production - Provide trend analysis and forecast performance bottlenecks proactively - Maintain and integrate appropriate tools, processes, and procedures to ensure testing efficiency and effectiveness Required Qualifications - 10 or more years of relevant experience in software quality engineering - Proven hands-on expertise in Java, JEE, Spring, SpringBoot, REST, Hibernate, AWS, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Maven, Jenkins, and Git - Strong background in load and performance testing of complex enterprise software applications - Deep understanding of performance testing concepts, methodologies, and industry best practices - Solid experience with Java-based software architectures - Proficiency in performance testing tools, preferably JMeter - Proficiency in application performance monitoring tools, preferably Dynatrace - Experience with relational databases including Oracle and PostgreSQL along with SQL - Familiarity with cloud technologies, preferably AWS - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to recommend actionable improvements - Excellent English communication skills; German language proficiency is an added advantage Why Join Us At American Express, you will be backed by a 175-year legacy of innovation, a culture that values your voice, and a comprehensive benefits package that supports your physical, financial, and mental well-being. - 10+ years of experience in software quality engineering - Hands-on expertise in Java, JEE, Spring, SpringBoot, REST, and Hibernate - Experience with AWS, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Maven, Jenkins, and Git - Strong load and performance testing skills for complex applications - Proficiency in JMeter for performance testing - Proficiency in Dynatrace or similar APM tools - Knowledge of relational databases and SQL - Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS - Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills - Excellent English communication; German language a plus
