Agentic AI and AI Ops Engineer - Platform Engineering

Role Overview Caterpillar Inc. is looking for a skilled Agentic AI and AI Ops Engineer to join its Platform Engineering team in Chennai. This role demands strong technical leadership and hands-on experience in building production-grade AI systems, autonomous workflows, and intelligent automation solutions that enhance platform reliability, operational efficiency, and developer experience. You will work alongside DevOps, SRE, and application engineering teams to embed AI deeply into real-world platform infrastructure. Key Responsibilities - Design and implement agentic AI systems capable of planning, reasoning, and executing multi-step workflows across platform and portal ecosystems - Build and deploy AI-driven automation for operations including incident detection, triage, remediation, and continuous monitoring - Develop and productionize LLM-based applications and intelligent workflows integrated with APIs, tools, and enterprise systems - Integrate AI solutions with cloud-native platform infrastructure such as Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, observability stacks, and telemetry systems - Drive proactive operations through predictive analytics and automated remediation capabilities - Establish scalable patterns for the full AI lifecycle from design and deployment through monitoring and optimisation - Provide technical mentorship to engineers and define best practices for AI engineering and automation Required Qualifications - Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field - 12 or more years of overall industry experience - Proven experience building and deploying AI or ML or Generative AI solutions in production environments - Strong software engineering fundamentals including system design, CI/CD, testing, and monitoring - Hands-on experience with cloud-native and distributed systems - Preferred: experience with agentic or LLM-based systems such as multi-step workflows, tool integration, and memory or context handling - Preferred: proficiency in Python or similar programming languages - Preferred: familiarity with Kubernetes, observability tooling, and workflow orchestration frameworks like LangGraph or AutoGen - Preferred: understanding of AI Ops, SRE practices, and reliability engineering principles Why Join Us At Caterpillar, you become part of a global team of makers and problem solvers committed to building stronger, more sustainable communities through innovation.
