Agentic AI and AI Ops Engineer - Platform Engineering

Role Overview Caterpillar Inc. is looking for a skilled Agentic AI and AI Ops Engineer to join its Platform Engineering team in Chennai. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and hands-on delivery of intelligent, automated platform operations using cutting-edge AI technologies. You will design and build production-grade agentic AI systems and autonomous workflows that enhance system reliability, operational efficiency, and the overall developer experience. Key Responsibilities - Design and implement agentic AI systems capable of planning, reasoning, and executing multi-step workflows across platform and portal ecosystems - Build and deploy AI-driven automation for IT operations including incident detection, triage, remediation, and continuous monitoring - Develop and productionize LLM-based applications and intelligent workflows integrated with APIs, tools, and enterprise systems - Integrate AI solutions with platform infrastructure including Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, observability tools, and telemetry systems - Drive proactive operations through predictive analytics and automated remediation capabilities - Establish scalable patterns for the full AI lifecycle covering design, deployment, monitoring, and optimization - Collaborate with platform, DevOps, SRE, and application teams to embed AI into core engineering workflows - Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and define best practices for AI engineering and automation Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field - 12 or more years of overall industry experience - Proven experience building and deploying AI/ML or Generative AI solutions in production environments - Strong software engineering fundamentals including system design, CI/CD, testing, and monitoring - Hands-on experience with cloud-native and distributed systems - Strong programming skills in Python or similar languages - Familiarity with Kubernetes and modern platform infrastructure - Experience with observability tools covering logs, metrics, and traces - Knowledge of workflow and orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph or AutoGen - Understanding of AI Ops, SRE practices, and reliability engineering principles Why Join Us At Caterpillar, you become part of a global team committed to building a better, more sustainable world through innovation and collaboration.
