Software Development Engineer - Alexa Daily Essentials

Role Overview Amazon is hiring a Software Development Engineer to join the Alexa Daily Essentials team in Chennai. This role is central to building and scaling Alexa News, a product that delivers personalised, contextually relevant news experiences to millions of customers across Echo devices, Fire TVs, Fire Tablets, and more. You will play a key part in shaping the technology vision and product direction for one of Alexa's most widely used features. Key Responsibilities - Define and evolve software architecture for complex, high-volume, customer-facing systems - Lead end-to-end coding and development of cross-functional programs and services - Design core system components and establish design principles and best practices across multiple teams - Identify performance bottlenecks, manage technical trade-offs, and provide escalation support when required - Drive technical alignment and consensus across engineering, product, and design teams - Collaborate with Product Managers, voice and visual designers, and program managers to continuously improve the customer experience - Champion engineering excellence and consistently deliver high-quality, reliable software Required Qualifications - Minimum 3 years of professional software development experience outside of internships - Minimum 2 years of experience in system design or architecture, including design patterns, reliability, and scalability - Proficiency in at least one software programming language - Preferred: 3 or more years of full software development lifecycle experience including code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations - Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field Why Join Us At Amazon, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on products used daily by millions of people around the world.
