Lead Software Engineer - Java

Role Overview EPAM Systems is looking for an experienced Lead Software Engineer with strong Java and AWS Cloud expertise to join a high-performing engineering team in Chennai. This is a senior-level, full-time opportunity for a hands-on technologist who can combine deep technical knowledge with leadership to deliver scalable microservices, cloud-native solutions, and robust front-end applications. Key Responsibilities - Take ownership and accountability for technology solutions and team deliverables across the project lifecycle - Provide technical thought leadership and guide the team in making well-informed architectural and design decisions - Identify and remove technology-related obstacles to keep projects on track - Collaborate with architects and the CTO organization on governance, best practices, and design frameworks - Address both functional and non-functional requirements while ensuring high-quality solution delivery - Oversee the quality of data models, API contracts, system architectures, and codebase standards - Support effort estimation, sprint planning, priority setting, and dependency identification - Foster strong collaboration across multiple teams including Vanguard Database, CTO organization, and API Economy initiatives - Serve as a hands-on technical leader with practical knowledge of AWS Cloud Native microservices architecture Required Qualifications - 8 or more years of experience designing and developing front-end applications, microservices, and REST APIs - Proficiency in Java, Node.js, and Spring Boot including API design and microservices architecture - Hands-on expertise in AWS Cloud services such as ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, and CloudWatch - Working knowledge of databases including DynamoDB and Aurora - Familiarity with agile methodology and API testing tools - Experience with monitoring platforms such as Splunk - Strong client-facing communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts clearly - Ability to lead teams and deliver clear solutions while managing ambiguity and complexity - Nice to have: Python programming skills, experience with cloud-native data pipelines, and understanding of API economy principles Why Join Us EPAM Systems is a globally recognized technology services company known for its engineering excellence and innovation-driven culture.
