Lead Software Engineer - Java

Role Overview EPAM Systems is looking for an experienced Lead Software Engineer with deep expertise in Java and AWS Cloud to join a high-performing engineering team in Chennai. This is a senior-level, full-time opportunity for a technologist who can blend hands-on development skills with strong technical leadership to deliver scalable front-end applications, microservices, and cloud-native solutions. You will work closely with architects, the CTO organization, and cross-functional teams to shape technology strategy and drive quality deliverables. Key Responsibilities - Take end-to-end ownership and accountability for technology solutions and team deliverables - Provide technical thought leadership and guide the team in making well-informed architectural and engineering decisions - Collaborate with architects and the CTO organization on governance frameworks and best practices - Identify and remove technical blockers throughout the project lifecycle to keep deliveries on track - Address both functional and non-functional requirements while building high-quality, production-grade solutions - Contribute to and improve software designs, architectures, and reusable frameworks - Oversee data models, API contracts, architecture standards, and code quality across the team - Support effort estimation, sprint planning, priority setting, and dependency identification - Serve as a key liaison across multiple teams and stakeholders to foster collaboration and alignment Required Qualifications - 8 or more years of experience designing and developing front-end applications, microservices, and REST APIs - Strong background in Java, Node.js, and Spring Boot including API and microservices development - Hands-on expertise with AWS Cloud services including ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, and CloudWatch - Proficiency with databases such as DynamoDB and Aurora - Familiarity with agile methodology and API testing tools - Experience with monitoring tools such as Splunk - Excellent client-facing communication and presentation skills - Proven team leadership experience with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and initiatives - Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments while maintaining structure and delivering clear outcomes Why Join Us EPAM Systems is a global leader in digital transformation and engineering services, offering exposure to cutting-edge cloud-native architectures and enterprise-scale projects. - 8+ years of experience in Java, Node.js, and Spring Boot development - Strong expertise in AWS Cloud services including ECS, Lambda, SQS, DynamoDB, and CloudWatch - Hands-on experience with microservices architecture and REST API design - Proficiency with DynamoDB and Aurora databases - Experience with API testing tools and agile development methodology - Familiarity with Splunk or similar monitoring and observability tools - Strong client-facing communication and presentation skills - Proven technical leadership and cross-team collaboration experience - Python knowledge is a plus - Experience with cloud-native data pipelines is an added advantage
