Lead Software Engineer - Java

Role Overview EPAM Systems is hiring an experienced Lead Software Engineer with deep expertise in Java and Azure to join a high-impact engineering team in Chennai. You will work on a large-scale, multi-module codebase involving complex integrations, asynchronous messaging flows, relational databases, and a mix of legacy and modern components. Key Responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain Java applications using the Spring ecosystem across a multi-module, multi-repository codebase - Build and expose RESTful APIs following OpenAPI specifications and industry best practices - Manage relational database interactions including query writing, JPA/Hibernate mappings, and schema evolution using Liquibase - Architect and maintain asynchronous, event-driven workflows using message queues such as Azure Service Bus or Kafka - Oversee containerised deployments and CI/CD pipelines on Kubernetes and GitLab CI - Integrate platform components with Azure cloud services including Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Service Bus, Azure Key Vault, and Azure Blob Storage - Write comprehensive unit and integration tests using JUnit 5 and Mockito with strong coverage standards - Proactively identify and remediate stale dependencies, flaky tests, architectural drift, and security vulnerabilities - Contribute to design reviews, document architectural decisions, and uphold coding standards across teams Required Qualifications - 8 or more years of professional Java development experience with the Spring ecosystem including Spring Boot, Spring Data JPA, and Spring Security - Strong command of PostgreSQL and ORM frameworks including JPA/Hibernate and Liquibase - Hands-on experience managing Kubernetes environments using kubectl, k9s, Docker, and AKS - Proficiency with GitLab CI pipelines and CI/CD best practices - Practical knowledge of Azure services such as Azure Service Bus, Azure Key Vault, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure Identity with Managed Identity or UAMI - Solid understanding of RESTful API design principles and OpenAPI specification-driven development - Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across service boundaries and stakeholder groups Why Join Us EPAM Systems is a globally recognised technology services company known for engineering rigour and continuous learning, offering engineers the chance to work on complex, real-world problems at scale.
