Data Scientist - Alexa Connections

Role Overview Amazon is looking for a talented Data Scientist to join the Alexa Connections team in Chennai. In this role, you will drive end-to-end development of machine learning and data science solutions that power intelligent communication experiences across calling, messaging, and email. You will work closely with product, engineering, and business leaders to transform complex problems into scalable ML models, experimentation frameworks, and actionable data-driven insights that serve millions of Alexa users worldwide. Key Responsibilities - Partner with product, engineering, operations, and security teams to convert complex business challenges into production-ready ML and data science solutions - Own the complete model development lifecycle including exploratory analysis, design, deployment, monitoring, and iterative improvement - Define and track success metrics, perform rigorous data analyses, and deliver insights that drive product launches and feature enhancements - Build data-driven business cases to prioritise science initiatives and measure the tangible impact of ML solutions - Conduct deep-dive analysis of business metrics, develop Python packages, write SQL queries, and deploy scalable solutions for Connections experience teams - Leverage pre-trained LLMs and AWS services to build applications addressing real business problems - Mentor junior analysts, improve data workflows and tooling, and contribute technical work to internal and external forums - Own or co-own MBR and WBR documents reviewed with the Connections leadership team Required Qualifications - 2 or more years of hands-on data scientist experience - 3 or more years working with data querying languages such as SQL or scripting languages such as Python, R, SAS, or MATLAB - 3 or more years of experience with machine learning and statistical modelling tools, techniques, and performance tuning - 1 or more years of experience contributing to research papers, mathematical textbooks, or educational technical content - Preferred: PhD in a STEM discipline - Preferred: Experience with GenAI model benchmarking, multi-team cross-disciplinary projects, and large technology company environments Why Join Us Amazon offers an inclusive, innovation-driven culture where you can work on cutting-edge AI solutions that impact millions of customers globally. - 2+ years of data scientist experience - 3+ years with SQL, Python, R, SAS, or MATLAB - 3+ years of machine learning and statistical modelling experience - Experience contributing to research papers or technical educational content - Strong proficiency in Python for building data science packages and pipelines - Experience with A/B testing, causal analysis, and experimentation frameworks - Familiarity with AWS services and cloud-based ML deployments - Knowledge of LLMs and generative AI applications - Strong verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
