Data Engineering Consultant

Role Overview Optum India, a global healthcare technology organization, is looking for a skilled Data Engineering Consultant to join its Chennai team. In this role, you will be at the heart of designing and managing robust data solutions that directly improve health outcomes for millions of people. You will work alongside a talented analytics team to build scalable, reliable, and high-performing data pipelines across diverse healthcare domains. Key Responsibilities - Support the complete data engineering lifecycle including research, proof of concepts, design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance of data management solutions - Lead data acquisition efforts to gather data from structured and semi-structured source systems and hydrate client data warehouses powering healthcare analytics - Apply ETL and ELT methodologies to handle complex relational and dimensional data for loading DataMarts and reporting aggregates - Detect and resolve data quality issues, identify root causes, implement corrective fixes, and conduct data audits to maintain data integrity - Build and maintain data integration pipelines that improve efficiency, reliability, and business value - Partner with the broader analytics organization to recommend improvements to data systems and platform architecture - Prepare high-level and detailed technical design documents following best practices for data ingestion, transformation, and movement - Use DevOps tools for code versioning and deployment, and leverage monitoring tools to detect pipeline issues before they impact end users - Drive continuous reduction of technical debt and support process transformation and optimization initiatives - Maintain high-quality documentation of data definitions, transformations, and processes to ensure governance, transparency, and security Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Analytics, or a related discipline - 5 or more years of combined experience in data engineering covering ingestion, normalization, transformation, aggregation, and storage - 5 or more years of experience working with relational, dimensional, or non-relational data storage systems - 5 or more years of hands-on experience designing ETL and ELT solutions using tools such as Informatica, DataStage, SSIS, PL/SQL, or T-SQL - 5 or more years of experience managing data assets using SQL, Python, Scala, VB.NET, or similar languages - 3 or more years of experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Spark, Scala, Python, ADO, and GitHub with advanced SQL expertise - 3 or more years of experience working with healthcare data or supporting healthcare organizations Why Join Us At Optum India, you will be part of a mission-driven team committed to making healthcare more equitable and accessible for everyone.
