Job Description

Role Overview WSP in India is looking for a skilled Data Engineer with a strong background in database management to join our expanding geospatial and data team in Bengaluru. This is a full-time opportunity for a professional ready to take complete ownership of database design, maintenance, optimisation, and governance supporting critical analytics and reporting functions across major land and infrastructure projects. You will play a key role in ensuring data platforms remain resilient, secure, scalable, and aligned with evolving business requirements. Key Responsibilities - Lead the design, development, and performance optimisation of SQL Server databases supporting core business applications and reporting systems - Own database schema architecture, data models, indexing strategies, and carry out regular performance tuning activities - Build and manage ETL and ELT pipelines using tools such as Azure Data Factory to enable reliable and accurate data flow - Develop and deploy custom reports using SSMS and SSRS for both operational and strategic decision-making - Create robust data models for Power BI and support analysts with well-structured, query-ready datasets - Use Python, R, or other scripting languages for automation, data transformation, and advanced analytics tasks - Act as the primary technical owner for databases within multidisciplinary project teams and translate business needs into scalable database solutions - Manage and optimise spatial datasets within PostGIS or SQL Server spatial components and collaborate with GIS teams for high-quality geospatial data integration - Oversee data governance frameworks, documentation, security standards, and access controls across all managed databases Required Qualifications - 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in data engineering with proven database ownership or administration responsibilities - Strong proficiency in SQL Server including schema design, indexing, performance monitoring, and optimisation - Demonstrated experience building ETL and ELT pipelines and integrating data from multiple source systems - Hands-on working knowledge of SSRS, SSMS, Power BI, Python, and R - Solid understanding of data governance principles, data quality frameworks, and secure access management practices - Experience with spatial databases such as PostGIS or SQL Server spatial extensions and GIS tools like QGIS or ArcGIS - Ability to document technical systems clearly and communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders - Exposure to Azure services including Data Factory, Synapse, or Data Lake is desirable - Familiarity with big data tools such as Spark, Hadoop, or Kafka is an added advantage - Professional certifications in cloud or data engineering such as Azure Data Engineer Associate are preferred Why Join Us At WSP, you will be part of a globally respected professional services firm working on landmark projects across sectors including land management, energy, transportation, and planning. Requirements

- 3 to 5 years of experience in data engineering with database ownership responsibilities - Strong proficiency in SQL Server schema design, indexing, optimisation, and performance tuning - Experience with ETL and ELT pipeline development and multi-system data integration - Hands-on experience with SSRS, SSMS, Python, R, and Power BI - Knowledge of data governance frameworks and secure access management - Experience with spatial databases including PostGIS or SQL Server spatial - Familiarity with GIS tools such as QGIS or ArcGIS - Exposure to Azure Data Factory, Synapse, or Data Lake - Knowledge of CI/CD, Git, and automated testing processes - Excellent problem-solving skills and proactive mindset - Strong communication skills for engaging with non-technical stakeholders
