Software Engineer - Established Engineer III (Mainframe)

Role Overview TekWissen India is hiring an experienced Software Engineer (Established Engineer III) for a leading global client in the transportation and technology domain. This is a hybrid contract opportunity based in Chennai, requiring 4 days per week from the office. The role sits within a full-stack engineering function covering the entire software development lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on Mainframe systems and back-end development. Key Responsibilities - Engage directly with customers to understand their requirements, pain points, and use-cases, and translate them into user-centric software solutions - Design and develop software applications using various tools, languages, frameworks, and methodologies including Agile practices - Assess technical requirements and determine the most suitable technology stack, integration approach, and deployment strategy - Create high-level software architecture designs covering overall structure, components, and application interfaces - Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product owners, designers, and architects to deliver cohesive solutions - Define and implement software testing strategies, guidelines, and quality assurance processes aligned with industry best practices - Continuously monitor, optimise, and improve application performance while incorporating emerging technologies - Follow programming best practices such as test-driven development, continuous integration, and continuous delivery - Support security practices including data encryption and anonymisation to safeguard user information - Develop and maintain back-end applications, APIs, and microservices using server-side languages - Build responsive, user-friendly front-end interfaces as part of full-stack responsibilities Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field - Minimum 6 years of overall IT experience with at least 6 years in software development - Proficiency in 2 or more coding languages, or advanced proficiency in at least 1 language - Hands-on experience with Mainframe Systems and Mainframe databases - Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and CI/CD practices - Working knowledge of DB2, COBOL, and JCL is preferred Why Join Us TekWissen India partners with globally recognised organisations offering engineers the chance to work on high-impact, enterprise-scale solutions. - Mainframe Systems and Mainframe DB experience - 6+ years in IT and software development - Proficiency in 2 coding languages or advanced proficiency in 1 language - Knowledge of DB2, COBOL, and JCL (preferred) - Experience with Agile, TDD, CI/CD practices - Software architecture design skills - Back-end development including APIs and microservices - Full-stack development capabilities - Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
