Senior Software Engineer - Application Performance Monitoring

Role Overview Walmart Global Tech India is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join its Application Performance Monitoring team in Chennai. This is an exciting opportunity to build and scale observability solutions that deliver real-time insights into application performance and reliability for one of the world's largest retail technology organisations. You will work at the intersection of data, distributed systems, and developer tooling to help engineering teams detect issues faster and make smarter architectural decisions. Key Responsibilities - Design and develop observability tools and frameworks that monitor application health, performance, and reliability at enterprise scale - Build intuitive dashboards and data visualisations using Grafana or similar platforms to make complex telemetry data accessible and actionable - Implement instrumentation and telemetry data collection using modern standards such as OpenTelemetry and Prometheus - Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to embed observability practices into the software development lifecycle - Drive best practices for monitoring, alerting, and performance analysis across the organisation - Contribute to frontend development using React and HTML to support browser-based observability interfaces - Optimise and debug distributed systems in production environments Required Qualifications - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline - 5 to 9 years of industry experience in software engineering, with a focus on large-scale distributed systems - Strong expertise in observability concepts including metrics, logs, and traces - Proficiency in backend development using Java or a comparable programming language - Hands-on experience with visualisation tools such as Grafana - Working knowledge of Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, and related monitoring and telemetry technologies - Proficiency in frontend development using React and HTML - Solid understanding of cloud-native architectures and microservices - Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly - Strong problem-solving capability in distributed systems environments Why Join Us At Walmart Global Tech India, you will be part of a people-led, tech-empowered team where a single line of code can impact hundreds of millions of lives.
