Research Science Analyst - Cleansheet Solution

Role Overview McKinsey and Company is looking for a Research Science Analyst to join the Cleansheet Solution team in Chennai. Cleansheet is McKinsey's AI-powered cost transparency platform that helps organisations gain deep visibility into the cost structures of products and services across industries such as automotive, electronics, pharmaceuticals, food, and capital projects. In this role, you will combine technical expertise, cutting-edge GenAI tools, and a strong grasp of manufacturing and procurement economics to drive smarter business decisions for global clients. Key Responsibilities - Build detailed, bottom-up cost models by breaking down cost components such as materials, labour, utilities, overhead, and carbon footprint - Conduct rigorous research and leverage curated cost databases and expert-built calculation engines to generate actionable insights - Use GenAI-enabled tools and agentic workflows to accelerate data gathering and model creation while maintaining accuracy and reliability - Codify analytical insights into reusable models and collaborate with clients to refine and validate solutions - Automate data processes to ensure precision, efficiency, and scalability across cost engineering projects - Work closely with cross-functional teams to support supplier negotiations, portfolio optimisation, and design decision-making Required Qualifications - Undergraduate or higher degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Industrial, or Software Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline with a strong academic record - Minimum 2 years of industry experience in should-costing, cost engineering, procurement analytics, manufacturing operations engineering, or closely related cost transparency and data analysis functions - Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills with the ability to disaggregate complex cost structures and identify key cost drivers - Proven experience building or working with bottom-up cost models, including familiarity with process parameters, cycle times, material utilisation, and yield-based research modelling - Proficiency in reading engineering drawings and technical specifications, along with hands-on experience using design tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Unigraphics, or CATIA - Comfort working with digital tools, Python scripting, data automation pipelines, and GenAI-enabled workflows with a critical mindset toward data quality and model robustness Why Join Us McKinsey offers a world-class learning culture backed by structured programmes, global mentorship across 65 plus countries, and continuous coaching that accelerates your growth faster than you will find anywhere else.
