Research Science Analyst - Cleansheet Solution

Role Overview McKinsey and Company is hiring a Research Science Analyst to join the Cleansheet Solution team in Chennai. Cleansheet is McKinsey's AI-powered cost transparency platform that helps organisations gain deep visibility into the cost structures of products and services across industries including automotive, electronics, pharmaceuticals, food, and capital projects. In this role, you will develop rigorous bottom-up cost models, leverage GenAI-enabled tools, and collaborate with clients to drive smarter design decisions, supplier negotiations, and portfolio optimisation. Key Responsibilities - Build detailed bottom-up cost models by breaking down cost drivers such as materials, labor, utilities, overhead, and carbon footprint - Conduct thorough research and use GenAI-enabled workflows and agentic networks to accelerate data gathering and model creation - Codify insights into reusable models and automate data processes to maintain precision and operational efficiency - Collaborate directly with clients to refine cost solutions and deliver actionable, data-driven recommendations - Apply scripting tools such as Python and engineering design software to support data automation and model robustness - Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications to inform cost engineering analysis Required Qualifications - Undergraduate or higher degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Industrial, or Software Engineering or a related quantitative discipline with a strong academic record - Minimum 2 years of industry experience in should-costing, cost engineering, procurement analytics, manufacturing operations, or related cost transparency functions - Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills with the ability to disaggregate complex cost structures and identify root cause drivers - Proven experience building or using bottom-up cost models including familiarity with process parameters, cycle times, material utilisation, and yield-based research modeling - Proficiency with digital tools, GenAI workflows, and scripting languages such as Python for data automation - Hands-on experience with engineering design tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Unigraphics, or CATIA Why Join Us McKinsey offers a world-class learning culture, structured mentorship, and exposure to global colleagues across 65 or more countries, enabling rapid professional growth.
