Lead Engineer - SAP Data and Analytics

Role Overview AstraZeneca is seeking a highly experienced Lead Engineer for SAP Data and Analytics to join its large-scale digital transformation programme called Axial, powered by SAP S/4HANA. This is a pivotal role within a once-in-a-generation ERP implementation that will impact over 20,000 employees globally and reshape the way AstraZeneca operates across its entire supply chain. You will lead the analytics and planning landscape, driving architecture, governance, and delivery across SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Datasphere. Key Responsibilities - Lead end-to-end design and delivery of SAP Analytics Cloud solutions including stories, planning models, and analytics designer applications - Architect and govern data models in SAP Datasphere including spaces, semantic models, fact and dimension modelling, hierarchies, and associations - Design and optimise ABAP CDS Views in S/4HANA environments including annotations, OData exposure, join strategies, and performance tuning - Manage live and acquired connectivity across S/4HANA, Datasphere, and non-SAP data sources with attention to security, SSO, and data quality - Build and manage SAC planning models including data actions, allocations, currency conversion, planning calendars, workflows, and driver-based planning - Partner with Finance and Operations teams to translate business requirements into scalable, high-performance analytics solutions - Own the product roadmap, backlog, and release cycles while managing vendors and L2/L3 support operations - Define test strategies, UAT, and performance benchmarks while maintaining architecture diagrams, solution documents, and runbooks - Establish standards, naming conventions, governance protocols, and a high-performing delivery culture across the team Required Qualifications - 12 to 15 years of experience in analytics and data engineering with at least 2 to 3 years specifically in SAP SAC and Datasphere solution delivery - Proven hands-on expertise in SAP Datasphere modelling including spaces, semantic layers, hierarchies, and performance optimisation - Strong experience designing ABAP CDS Views in S/4HANA with analytics annotations and OData integration - Demonstrated ability to build complex SAC planning models, input templates, and analytics designer apps with scripting - Experience in data access control, role and team design, auditability, and compliance with internal governance policies - Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills with senior business partners - Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with the ability to thrive in an agile, fast-paced environment - Fluency in business English with strong interpersonal and organisational abilities Why Join Us AstraZeneca is committed to being a Great Place to Work where employees are empowered to push the boundaries of science and make a real difference to patients and society. - 12-15 years of analytics and data engineering experience - 2-3 years leading SAP SAC and Datasphere solution delivery - Hands-on expertise in SAP Datasphere modelling and governance - Proficiency in ABAP CDS Views design and optimisation in S/4HANA - Experience building SAC planning models, data actions, and analytics applications - Knowledge of security, SSO, data quality, and transport management - Familiarity with SQL scripting, data pipelines, ETL, and CDC processes - Strong stakeholder management and communication skills - Experience managing vendors and L2/L3 support operations - Ability to define test strategies, UAT, and produce solution design documentation - SAP SAC or SAP Datasphere certifications preferred - Experience with Python and JavaScript for dashboard customisation and automation is a plus
