Job Description

Role We don’t just want people who know the theory; we want engineers who can build. As our Junior Hardware Design Engineer, your job is simple: take a concept and turn it into a working PCB. Schematic entry, component selection, and rigorous testing—that is your domain. If you have the technical strength and the discipline to deliver, apply now.

Responsibilities

Electronics & Hardware Foundations Circuit Design: Design robust schematics and circuits tailored to advanced robotics applications. Component Datasheets: Adeptly read, interpret, and extract critical parameters from complex component datasheets to ensure accurate part selection. PCB Design: Design and iterate on 2 to 12 layer PCBs with high-speed signals, focusing on high component density and signal integrity. Component Mastery: Select ideal components (Microcontrollers, PMICs, Wireless Modules) from manufacturers like TI, ST, Nordic, and Espressif. Hardware Protocols: Implement and debug industrial standards including I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, RS-485, and Ethernet. Testing & DFM: Perform rigorous debugging using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers; ensure all designs follow Standard DFM (Design for Manufacturing) principles. Board Bring-Up: Manage the initial power-on, testing, and validation of newly manufactured PCB assemblies. Soldering: Good to know hands-on soldering

skills

for quick prototyping, debugging, and component rework. Prototyping & Embedded Linux: Work with platforms like ARM, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi. Good to have: Basic understanding of Buildroot, Linux Drivers, Device Trees, and Bootloaders. AI Adaptation & Efficiency Next-Gen AI Tool Integration: Effectively adapt AI and its latest tools—including Cursor (AI Code Editor), GitHub Copilot, Gemini Pro, and AI-driven EDA tools like Flux.ai or DeepPCB—into day-to-day tasks. Workflow Optimization: Utilize AI to accelerate documentation, unit testing, and troubleshooting to maintain a high-paced development cycle. Teamwork, Ownership & Process End-to-End Stewardship: Manage the full product lifecycle—from initial

requirements

and component selection to prototype verification and production. Documentation: Follow process compliance during design and verification. Maintain internal Probots component libraries and meticulous test reports. Collaborative Mindset: Work alongside software teams and AI tools to ensure the hardware architecture supports the computational needs of our robots. Communication: Present technical reviews of your circuits and PCBs, ensuring high-quality deliverables and professional work ethics. What a Typical Day Looks Like Morning Sync: Kick off the day aligning with cross-functional teams (software and mechanical) to ensure your hardware designs support the overall computational and physical needs of the robots. Deep Dive Design: Spend focused time reading component datasheets, designing complex circuits, and routing high-speed PCBs using modern EDA tools. Hands-on Lab Work: Transition to the lab for board bring-up, rigorously testing new prototypes with oscilloscopes, and using your soldering

skills

for quick component modifications. AI-Assisted Efficiency: Throughout the day, actively prompt AI tools to optimize your unit testing, troubleshoot tricky bugs, or speed up your daily documentation.
