Remote Machine Learning Engineer

Role Overview Turing, a San Francisco-based global leader in frontier AI research acceleration and enterprise AI deployment, is hiring experienced Machine Learning Engineers for benchmark-driven evaluation projects. This is a fully remote contract opportunity ideal for engineers who enjoy bridging the gap between research and production-grade ML systems. You will work hands-on with real-world ML codebases, training pipelines, and deployment workflows to evaluate and enhance the capabilities of advanced AI systems. Key Responsibilities - Work with production-level ML codebases to support MLE Bench-style evaluation and assessment tasks - Build, execute, and refine model training, evaluation, and inference pipelines from end to end - Prepare and manage datasets, feature sets, and metrics required for ML benchmarking and validation - Debug, refactor, and optimise production-like ML systems to improve correctness and overall performance - Evaluate model behaviour, identify failure modes, and analyse edge cases relevant to benchmark objectives - Write clean, reproducible, and thoroughly documented Python code suited to ML workflows - Participate in code reviews to uphold engineering quality standards across the team - Collaborate with researchers and engineers to design challenging real-world ML engineering tasks for AI system evaluation Required Qualifications - Minimum 3 years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer or Software Engineer with an ML focus - Strong proficiency in Python for machine learning and data-centric workflows - Hands-on experience building and maintaining model training, evaluation, and inference pipelines - Solid grounding in ML fundamentals including supervised and unsupervised learning, evaluation metrics, and optimisation techniques - Practical experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, or equivalent tools - Demonstrated ability to navigate, understand, and modify complex real-world ML codebases - Experience producing readable, reusable, and maintainable production-quality code - Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical capabilities - Excellent written and spoken English communication skills Why Join Us Turing offers the flexibility of fully remote freelance work alongside the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge AI projects in collaboration with leading large language model companies worldwide.
