Role Overview
Turing is one of the fastest-growing AI companies in the world, and we are actively building LLM evaluation and training datasets to help large language models tackle realistic software engineering challenges. We are seeking experienced C++ developers at the tech lead level who are comfortable working with high-quality public GitHub repositories and contributing to cutting-edge AI research. This is a unique remote contract opportunity that blends hands-on software engineering with meaningful AI development work.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and triage GitHub issues across trending open-source libraries to assess their suitability for LLM training scenarios
- Set up and configure code repositories, including Dockerization and complete development environment automation
- Evaluate unit test coverage and quality to ensure datasets meet research-grade standards
- Modify and run codebases locally to assess how well LLMs perform in real-world bug-fixing scenarios
- Collaborate with AI researchers to identify repositories and issues that present meaningful challenges for LLMs
- Optionally lead a small team of junior engineers working on related dataset construction tasks
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong hands-on proficiency in C++ with a solid understanding of modern development practices
- Working knowledge of Git, Docker, and basic software pipeline configuration
- Ability to read, navigate, and reason through complex codebases independently
- Comfortable running, modifying, and testing real-world open-source projects in a local environment
- Experience contributing to or evaluating open-source projects is an advantage

Requirements
- 3 or more years of overall software engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in C++
- Hands-on experience with Git and Docker
- Ability to navigate and understand complex codebases
- Experience running and modifying real-world projects locally
- Familiarity with open-source project contribution or evaluation
- Availability of at least 20 hours per week with 4 hours daily overlap with PST timezone
