Job Description

Role Overview SPAN is seeking an experienced Payroll Lead to oversee U.S. payroll operations with exceptional accuracy and compliance. This is a technical leadership position requiring expertise in Workday payroll management, Leave of Absence administration, and complex benefits reconciliation. You will be the subject matter expert ensuring every employee receives correct compensation while maintaining strict regulatory adherence. Key Responsibilities - Execute end-to-end U.S. payroll processing including bonuses, relocations, severance, and final pay while adhering to state-specific regulations - Manage Workday data integrity by validating complex employee changes and ensuring alignment with supporting documentation - Investigate and escalate payroll discrepancies and edge cases, exercising strong judgment and attention to detail - Audit payroll data continuously within Workday to identify and flag discrepancies before they impact employee payments - Partner with HR to review and process Leave of Absence payments with mastery of state-specific policy applications - Perform monthly reconciliations of benefit invoices across medical, dental, vision, 401k, and HSA programs - Maintain working knowledge of U.S. payroll regulatory requirements and internal control frameworks Required Qualifications - Seven to ten plus years of U.S. payroll experience in complex, high-growth environments - Deep Workday expertise including business processes and EIB loads - Advanced Excel proficiency for LOA calculations and benefits reconciliations - Exceptional communication skills with ability to explain complex pay impacts clearly to employees - Strong understanding of payroll risks, controls, and regulatory compliance Why Join Us Join SPAN's mission-driven team working on clean energy electrification solutions that reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change. Requirements

- Seven to ten plus years U.S. payroll experience - Workday power user certification or equivalent - Advanced Excel skills - Understanding of U.S. payroll regulatory requirements - Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities - Excellent written and verbal communication - Experience with OneSource Virtual, Sequoia, GoNavia, Empower, or HSA Bank preferred - CPP or FCP certification preferred
