We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Database Administrator (L1 DBA) to join our Data Operations team at our Bengaluru office. This is a full-time, work-from-office role ideal for early-career professionals who are passionate about database internals, uptime reliability, and automation in a high-stakes financial services environment. Key Responsibilities Monitor the real-time health of PostgreSQL and Cassandra database environments using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and OCI Logs. Respond promptly to L1 alerts related to high CPU and memory usage, disk space exhaustion, and connection threshold breaches. Perform initial incident triage and escalate complex issues to the Lead DBA as required. Carry out routine PostgreSQL maintenance including manual VACUUM operations, bloat monitoring, and RBAC-based user permission management. Conduct regular Cassandra node maintenance tasks such as nodetool repair, cluster cleanup, and compaction throughput monitoring. Manage automated backup schedules and execute periodic Restoration Drills to validate data integrity and recovery readiness. Enforce the Principle of Least Privilege across all database access controls. Assist with database version patching and security update deployments during scheduled maintenance windows. Collect and archive audit logs to support PCI DSS and ISO compliance reviews. Develop and maintain Bash or Python scripts to automate repetitive operational tasks such as log rotation and health checks. Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for common resolutions and system restart workflows. Required Qualifications Solid foundational knowledge of SQL concepts including Joins, Indexes, and Transactions, as well as NoSQL principles such as partitions and consistency models. Working knowledge of PostgreSQL tools including psql, pg_dump, and pg_restore, along with a basic understanding of WAL logs. Familiarity with Cassandra fundamentals including the Gossip protocol, cqlsh, and distributed data architecture. Proficiency in Linux command-line operations including log inspection, process management, and basic network troubleshooting. Basic working exposure to Git, Docker, and monitoring dashboard tools. Ability to write or maintain scripting in Bash or Python for operational automation. 0 to 4 years of experience in database administration or a related technical role Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent discipline Hands-on or academic knowledge of PostgreSQL including psql, pg_dump/pg_restore, and WAL log concepts Basic understanding of Apache Cassandra including Gossip protocol, cqlsh, and cluster data distribution Proficiency in Linux CLI for system log review, process management, and network troubleshooting Ability to write Bash or Python scripts for task automation and health monitoring Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OCI Logs Understanding of database security principles including Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and Least Privilege Exposure to compliance frameworks such as PCI DSS or ISO audit log requirements Basic knowledge of Git and Docker Strong attention to detail and ability to execute commands accurately on production systems Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills for incident reporting and escalation Familiarity with cloud platforms such as OCI, AWS, or Azure is an added advantage Prior internship or work experience in a Fintech or high-traffic web application environment is preferred
