Head of Engineering - Commercial Services

Role Overview Tide is a fast-growing fintech platform serving over 2 million SME members across the UK, India, Germany, and France. As Head of Engineering for Commercial Services, you will be a senior technical leader responsible for defining and executing engineering strategy across Tide's Buy and Sell product pillars. This is a high-impact role that blends hands-on architectural involvement with strategic leadership across distributed engineering teams. Key Responsibilities - Define and drive the architectural direction for Tide's Commercial Services platform, ensuring scalability, resilience, and regulatory compliance - Lead the design and development of high-quality credit and commerce products for retail and service-sector SME members - Collaborate closely with Product, Compliance, and Business teams to align engineering execution with commercial objectives - Oversee third-party integrations and ensure seamless, high-quality technical delivery across all partnerships - Provide direct technical guidance on architecture, system design, and engineering decisions - Champion best practices in software development, security, and system design across all teams - Mentor Engineering Managers and senior engineers, building a culture of ownership, learning, and technical excellence - Influence Tide's broader technical strategy as it scales Commercial Services globally Required Qualifications - 10 or more years of backend engineering experience with at least 3 years in senior engineering leadership - Strong expertise in microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and distributed platforms - Proven ability to use AI tools and large language models to improve engineering productivity and delivery quality - Track record of building scalable, fault-tolerant, and resilient systems at production scale - Experience delivering complex systems and managing third-party technical integrations - Ability to convert strategic business goals into a well-defined technical roadmap - Hands-on familiarity with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, AWS, Kubernetes, and related modern backend technologies is advantageous - Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders Why Join Us Tide has been recognised as a Great Place to Work for three consecutive years and is listed among India's Top 50 Best Workplaces in Banking and Financial Services in 2026.
