Data Governance Platform Engineer

Role Overview Lonza is looking for a skilled Data Governance Platform Engineer to join its Digital, Data and AI team based in Hyderabad, India. In this role, you will be instrumental in building and scaling enterprise-grade data governance capabilities across modern Azure data platforms, helping ensure that data across the organisation is trusted, compliant, and of the highest quality. This is an office-first position with the option to work remotely one day per week, allowing you to collaborate closely with global teams driving innovation in life sciences. Key Responsibilities - Design and implement enterprise data governance solutions using Microsoft Purview and Azure data technologies - Build and scale metadata management capabilities including data lineage, classification, cataloging, and governance automation - Integrate governance frameworks across platforms such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, ADLS, SAP, and Azure SQL - Establish and operationalize governance controls, policies, access models, and compliance workflows - Develop reusable governance tools, automation scripts, and engineering frameworks to standardize practices across the organization - Collaborate with data engineers, architects, security teams, and business stakeholders to embed governance-by-design principles - Provide technical guidance and onboarding support to data stewards and platform teams while driving continuous improvement Required Qualifications - Proven experience with data governance platforms such as Microsoft Purview or equivalent enterprise tools - Strong hands-on expertise with the Azure data ecosystem including Data Factory, Synapse, ADLS, Databricks, and Azure SQL - Solid understanding of metadata management, data lineage, cataloging, classification, and governance frameworks - Programming and automation skills in Python, SQL, REST APIs, or PowerShell - Knowledge of cloud data platform architecture, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation-first engineering approaches - Familiarity with data governance concepts such as stewardship, data quality, data lifecycle management, and compliance standards including GDPR and GxP - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience Why Join Us At Lonza, you will be part of a globally connected organisation with over 30 sites across five continents, united by core values of Collaboration, Accountability, Excellence, Passion, and Integrity.
