Job Description

Role Overview Optum is seeking an experienced Data Engineering Consultant to join its growing data and analytics team in Hyderabad. This is a high-impact hybrid role designed for seasoned data professionals with deep expertise in ETL/ELT architecture, cloud-based data platforms, and healthcare data ecosystems. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical proficiency in Azure, Databricks, Spark, and industry-standard data integration tools, and will play a pivotal role in building scalable, reliable data solutions that drive clinical and business intelligence across healthcare domains. This position actively welcomes applications from women candidates, including those returning to the workforce. Key Responsibilities The Data Engineering Consultant will oversee and participate in the complete data engineering lifecycle — from research and proof-of-concept through design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance of enterprise data management solutions. You will lead data acquisition initiatives, ingesting structured and semi-structured data from multiple source systems to populate client data warehouses and enable analytics across healthcare domains. You will architect and implement robust ETL/ELT pipelines for loading DataMarts and reporting aggregates using both relational and dimensional data models. A key part of the role involves identifying and resolving data quality issues at the root level, conducting data audits, and maintaining data integrity standards. You will collaborate closely with the broader analytics organization to recommend architectural improvements to data platforms and support the rollout of modern data frameworks that power advanced analytics and business intelligence reporting. Additionally, you will prepare high-level and detailed technical design documents, leverage DevOps tooling for version control and deployment, and use pipeline monitoring tools to proactively detect and address data integrity issues before they surface in production. Ongoing contribution to technical debt reduction, documentation standards, and data governance practices is also expected. Required Qualifications See requirements section below.
