Job Description

The IB-PYP Visual Arts Teacher will deliver a child-centered, inquiry-based art program that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and cultural appreciation. The role focuses on developing students' "visual language" and self-expression while aligning with the PYP framework. The teacher will nurture a love for the arts by encouraging students to explore, experiment, and reflect on their creative journeys, ensuring that the art studio is a hub for transdisciplinary discovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Learning (PYP-Aligned) Plan and deliver inquiry-based art lessons that align with the PYP philosophy and the school’s Programme of Inquiry (POI). Develop foundational

skills

in various art mediums appropriate for primary learners (Early Years to Grade 5). Integrate visual arts into Units of Inquiry, allowing students to express their understanding of classroom concepts through creative media. Differentiate instruction to ensure all students, regardless of artistic background, can achieve success and express themselves. 2. Curriculum & Creative Development Design a progressive art curriculum that builds a strong vocabulary in the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. Promote an appreciation for Art History and Global Cultures, introducing students to diverse artists and traditional crafts. Encourage the use of the Art Journal as a tool for brainstorming, sketching, and reflecting on the creative process. 3. Assessment & Documentation Use formative assessment strategies, such as peer critiques and self-reflections, to support student growth. Document the "learning journey" through anecdotal records, process portfolios, and displays that highlight both the process and the product. Provide constructive feedback that encourages students to take risks and refine their artistic techniques. 4. Collaboration & School Engagement Collaborate with homeroom teachers and the PYP Coordinator to ensure the arts are meaningfully integrated into transdisciplinary units. Participate in collaborative planning meetings, school assemblies, and the PYP Exhibition. Play a major role in school events by designing themes, stage backdrops, props, and visual aesthetics for assemblies, festivals, and annual functions.
