Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented claims professional to join our Property & Marine Claims function. The ideal candidate will own the end-to-end handling of corporate claims across fire, property, engineering and marine cargo lines — from first intimation through surveyor coordination, documentation, negotiation and final settlement — while carrying direct responsibility for complex, high-value and contentious matters, and acting throughout as the representative of the client's interest with the insurer. This is a dedicated non-Employee-Benefit claims role. The position does not handle group health, group personal accident or any other employee benefit claims, which are managed by a separate team.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Claim registration and intimation

  • Claim registration and intimation
  • Receive claim intimations from corporate clients, register them in SIBRO, and lodge intimation with the insurer within the timelines stipulated by the policy.
  • Obtain and communicate the claim reference number and the appointed surveyor's details to the client without delay.
  • For marine cargo claims, ensure notice of loss is served on the carrier, port trust or custodian within the applicable time bar, and that joint survey is arranged where required. Survey and documentation
  • Coordinate the surveyor's site visit and attend in person at client premises across Delhi NCR where the loss warrants it; ensure the loss is inspected before any alteration, repair or disposal of damaged property.
  • Compile and verify the claim documentation set — claim form, policy copy, statement of loss, invoices, repair estimates, photographs, fire brigade or police reports, and for marine claims the invoice, packing list, bill of lading / lorry receipt / airway bill, shortage or damage certificate, bill of entry and carrier correspondence.
  • Follow up with the client and the surveyor to close documentation gaps and prevent avoidable delay. Assessment, negotiation and settlement
  • Review the surveyor's assessment against policy terms; identify and challenge unwarranted deductions on account of depreciation, salvage, policy excess or the application of the average clause.
  • Escalate disputed positions to the insurer with a reasoned written case, supported by policy wording and documentation.
  • Process the discharge voucher, letter of subrogation and any allied documents, and follow the settlement payment through to receipt by the client. Complex and high-value claim ownership
  • Take direct carriage of large-loss, technically complex and contentious claims across property, engineering and marine portfolios, from intimation through to settlement.
  • Assess the coverage position at the outset, identify likely areas of dispute, and set the strategy for the file before the surveyor's report is issued.
  • Draft and present reasoned representations to insurers on disputed deductions, coverage denials and quantum, and drive them to resolution. Repudiation, escalation and dispute management
  • Handle repudiated and partially settled claims: analyse the ground of repudiation against the policy wording and the facts, and build the client's case.
  • Manage escalation to the insurer's grievance channel and, where appropriate, advise the client on recourse to the Insurance Ombudsman or other forums.
  • Maintain a clear escalation record with reasons, and report unresolved matters to the Principal Officer where materiality warrants. Insurer and surveyor management
  • Act as the day-to-day point of contact with insurers' claims departments and with appointed surveyors and loss assessors.
  • Press for timely surveyor appointment, timely survey and timely issue of the survey report, and escalate within the insurer's hierarchy where service falls short. Client communication and record-keeping
  • Keep the client proactively informed at each stage of the claim, without waiting to be asked.
  • Maintain complete and current claim records in SIBRO, and ensure all correspondence is logged and traceable.
  • Prepare periodic claim status reports for clients and for the internal servicing and placement teams. Peer review and knowledge-sharing
  • Provide technical review of claim files on request before they go to the insurer, and invite the same review of your own files.
  • Share knowledge across the function on policy interpretation, documentation standards and negotiation approach, so that handling quality is consistent regardless of who holds the file.
  • Monitor turnaround from intimation to closure on your own portfolio, identify the causes of delay, and address them with the client, surveyor or insurer as the case may be. Claims intelligence and renewal support
  • Prepare and maintain claim
